Images of the Marcha Blanca

Here are some photos that illustrate a memorable day of competition for the Canadian-Brazilian couple. The 23rd edition of the Marcha Blanca, which was held on August 16 at Ushuaia, in the province of "Tierra del Fuego" in southern Argentina, is the largest winter event in Latin America...

500 Argentineans, a dozen Brazilians, some Americans and one Canadian gathered at the start… All Happy Skiers…

Start in 30 seconds!… We wish each other good luck before getting focused…

The start is given… but skating is not permitted on the first 50 meters (to avoid breaking equipment) ... only abdominal muscles and arms are used to move forward...

Some take off so fast that they fly above the snow (notice the gap between the snow and the skis of the orange guy)...

After a few hundred meters, a bunch of faster skiers get away… And for the first time in 23 years, a woman (blue uniform with yellow knees) follows the leaders...

After sixty-two and a half minutes of effort, we come back to the starting point after racing over 21 kilometers of snowy trails (almost) as fast as a snowmobile …

The younger skiers complete a 7.5 kilometer loop… prizes are also awarded for best costumes…

Post-competition interviews with serious questions in Spanish and humorous answers in "Portugnol" (a hybrid language between Brazilian Portuguese and Argentinean Spanish)…

The 3rd Skier to cross the Finish line is a woman!?!

Explosion of joy…

The women’s podium… two Brazilians and an Argentinean…

The men’s podium… a Dutch-Canuck-Brazilian, an Argentinean and an American…

The American in 3rd place (red jacket) wrote an article about the race at the following link : http://fasterskier.com

Two days after the race, the happy couple took advantage of a 30 cm snow fall to go alpine skiing in the fluffy Argentinian fresh powder and practice some downhill techniques... Yahoo!...

Dominick Gauthier and his Olympic Mogul Skier friends were training in Ushuaia. So they invited the crazy Brazilian to try their mogul course which resulted in a “jambed” back which will not get better by sitting in a plane for 16 hours…

Meanwhile, Olympic Moguls Champion Jennifer Heil was generously giving advice to Jaqueline about basic acrobatic skiing moves that could be useful for a Brasilian going downhill on cross-country skis : edging, absorbing bumps and landing those occasional unexpected flips…

The next day, the Monkey-Skier was spotted in a Park, downtown Buenos Aires, 3000 km North of Ushuaia, on his way to Canada, stretching that stiff back…

Últimos abrazos del fin del Mundo…
