- It was like a dream come true! After the XC-ski season, we headed to Brazil at the beginning of May for holidays and family; but also for a very special project: the Red Bull Under My Wing . We organized 3 days of pure MTB for 30 girls - 15 to 21 year old Brazilian MTBikers! http://www.redbull.com.br/undermywing When I decided to stop MTB racing, as the reference person for many bikers in my country, I knew I needed to do more for the MTB community. Brazil doesn’t have a U23 female category in the official ranking, not even official races for this age, and the jump from junior category to Elite is something quite big for most of them. As well, there aren’t any bike schools or camps and bike clubs are mainly male oriented. We succeeded! It was an amazing proof that there are U23 female bikers and they want to excel so bad! The event was fantastic: excellent organization with very focused and dedicated participants and good ambience! We organized conferences with PhDs in different areas, Nutrition, Sport Physiology, Sport Psychology, Physiotherapy and Injury Prevention, Marketing and TV. Also there were physiological and anthropometric tests; technical skills practices and basic mechanic skills; and finally a party with a Brazilian band called the “Renegados” that brought relaxation and fun on Saturday night. I didn’t expect to meet so many talented and dedicated participants, hungry to learn and full of energy! It was worth all the dedication and organization of this project to see it become true. Thank you Red Bull and Scott for making my dream come true and passing on my experience to the future MTB hopefuls of Brazil! I hope some of you meet the best two of this project, showing her Brazilian style, at the 2010 World Championships in Mont-Saint-Anne, Canada; for sure they will work pretty hard. We finished our XC-ski season at the end of April, enjoying the
last snow tracks to learn ski specific skills. Already prequalified
for Vancouver 2010 and eligible to participate in XC-ski World
Cups, we are really looking forward to the next ski season to
be the first South American to participate in an XC-ski World
Cup!
